The cover of the Japanese translation of Robin Wall Kimmerer’s “Braiding Sweetgrass”, is graced with the WEN’s Editor’s engravings of his wife’s (many) sweetgrass braids.
Tony says “I cut this engraving for the WEN calendar, and about the same time Jeanne [Tony’s partner] was reading Robin’s book, and really liking it (I too have read the book and it is a recent favorite, well written and the topic resonates with me). I decided to mail Robin a proof, and tell her how much Jeanne was enjoying her book. Robin wrote a great email back and asked if she could feature the engraving on her facebook page. Fast forward to a few months ago, when Robin forwards an email from her Japanese publisher, asking how to contact me per the use of my wood engraving for “Braiding Sweetgrass” as they saw it on Robin’s Facebook page. It worked out nicely as they used the engraving, and it’s fun to have the book in hand (the book is “backwards” the cover on what would be the back for our books and you turn the pages to the right when reading).”
