May’s calendar page, by Minnesota artist, Dale Kennedy is full of mysterious imagery and surreal wonder. What looks like medieval figures gathered on a very large tree stump with flaming swords crossed above and strings/ropes suggest a May Pole, while on the right half, a wide spaced toothy smiling figure suggests a different culture altogether. The sun-like symbol at the bottom of the right most figure alludes to an Aztec culture perhaps. There is a small alchemy symbol of the sun in the upper left corner, consistent with European traditions. I reach for the stars often – happy May!
