Sylvia Pixley’s husband, Allen Pixley passed away August 13, 2025 at age 87. Many will remember Allen as Sylvia’s biggest supporter and cheerleader and therefore a huge advocate and supporter of wood engraving and the Wood Engravers’ Network. His passing is a big loss for our community and he will be missed.
Please join Sylvia and her family in celebrating the life of Allen Cortner Pixley. The funeral will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church at 11:00 on Saturday September 6; doors open at 10:00 for greeting. Following the service, a luncheon reception will be held 12:00-2:00. The Merkle Funeral Service will then lead a procession of those who wish to join the family to a brief graveside service at 2:30 at the historic Woodland Cemetery in Monroe.
Everyone who met Allen knows how much he enjoyed telling stories. Guests will be invited to share their own stories and memories of Allen, both in the guest book and during the reception.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or to the Floral City Harmonizers in memory of Allen. Flowers are welcome and may be sent to the church or funeral home. Online guests may leave words of inspiration and comfort or share a photo by visiting www.merklefs.com.
