The 2017 Annual Wood Engravers’ Network conference, hosted by Michael McGarvey and Stockton University, has officially started! There is so much going on – if you missed the Spring/Summer issue of Block & Burin (B&B) – get on it – you’re missing a great issue! The interview with DeborahMae Broad is stellar with loads of great photos. We hope to interview one WEN member for every B&B – our members are so very interesting!
The first day of the conference was very chill – getting settled into the gallery space to engrave and socialize while the WEN Triennial Exhibition and wood engravings by Stefan Martin are gradually installed. What a wonderful atmosphere to be in. A morning walk highlighted the marvelous land stewardship that Stockton has embraced in recent years:
recreation and healthy habitat for wildlife. The efforts are impressive – solar panels top structures that act as covered areas in parking lots while the majority of the campus is occupied by forest with charming paths around Lake Fred.
Guest Artist, Gaylord Shanilec, introduced some of his work prior to his public lecture on Friday June 30 at 3:30pm. The lecture is followed by a reception for the WEN Triennial and Stefan Martin exhibits from 4:30 to 6:30pm. Additionally, conference attendees will present their work in an informal “Show & Tell” format during the reception. Seriously folks – this is a visual feast not to be missed!
